The distraught mother of Rudy Eugene speaks to media about his son who was fatally shot by Miami police after he was found naked and chewing the face oh a homeless man identified as Ronald Poppo
Ruth Charles said her son 31 year-old Rudy Eugene was no zombie, police said they believe he was under the influence of bath salts also referred as the New LSD, when he committed the horrible attack that left Poppo with 75% of his face gone, toxicology results will take several weeks
He was a good kid,” she said. “He gave me a nice card on Mother’s Day. Everyone says he was a zombie. He was no zombie. That was my son.”
The heartbroken mother said she cried when she heard about what happened, she doesn’t understand why police had to shoot him instead of tasered him.
“I feel devastated. That was not him who was seen on TV doing that. He was a nice kid. He was a good kid. He gave me a nice card on Mother’s Day. I never had any problems with him. The police don’t have to shoot him. They could have Tased him.”
In 2004 Rudy Eugene was arrested for threatening her, Ruth’s husband called police, she told police her son tried to kill her, he was threatening to kill her but when media asked Mrs. Charles about that incident with her son, she said it happened because he was angry.
