Meet Vorayuth Yoovidhya, he is the grandson of the Thai Billionaire founder of the energy drink Red Bull, this young man was arrested after a hit-and-run accident where a police man was killed.
27-year-old Vorayuth Yoovidhya he is the grandson of the Red Bull Billionaire founder who was arrested a his home in Bangkok after police traced oil streaks leading to his home. Inside the house police found a grey Ferrari with a broken windshield and a dented front bumper.
Vorayuth accepted he drove the Ferrari but added that the policeman cut in front of his car abruptly, the policeman 47year-old Sgt. Maj. Wichean Glanprasert, died after he was dragged with his motorcycle several meters at high speed at about 5:30 a.m.
The charges on Mr. Yoovidhya are of causing death by reckless driving and escaping an arrest by police he was released on a $15,900 (500,000 baht) bail.
The investigation of this crime might have taken a different turn when according to Bangkok’s most senior police official Comronwit Toopgrajank, said he took over the investigation after he discovered a lower rank officer Pol Lt-Col Pannapon Nammuang, the Thong Lor superintendent tried to cover-up the whole investigation by arresting the wrong suspect, he has been suspended.
‘A policeman is dead. I can’t let this stand. If I let this case get away, I’d rather quit. I don’t care how powerful they are. If I can’t get the actual man in this case, I will resign.’
Vorayuth Yoovidhya’s grandfather Chaleo was born in August 17, 1923 to a poor Thai Chinese family, they later moved to Bangkok. Chaleo with very little education but even so he worked with parents, as a grownup he worked at a local pharmaceutics company selling antibiotics, but in the early 60’s he quit his job and created hi own pharmaceutical business “TC Pharmaceuticals”. It was there that n 1976 he develop a energy boost drink “Krating Daeng” the label feature two large gaurs (similar to bulls, but is more a bovine native from Asia commonly knows as krathing), the drink became a favorite among local truck drivers and worker with night shifts, but it also helped cure the jet lag on Dietrich Mateschitz an Austrian entrepreneur who later became Chaleo’s partner and the one who added a god flavor to the drink and marketing creator.
Mr. Chaleo Yoovidhya died on March 17th, 2012 at the age of 88. Besides the Yoovidhya’s income from Red Bull, they a shareholders in real state, hospitals and are the co-owners of the company authorized to import Ferraris in Thailand. The Yoovidhya’s fortune is worth net worth of $5.4billion they are considered the third wealthiest family in Thailand. Chaleo was ranked the 205th wealthiest man in the world, he is survived by 11 sons and daughters he had from his two marriages. He had 5 children with his first wife and six with the second.
One of his sons is Chalerm Yoovidhya the only of his son who owns the 2% of Red Bull (Chaleo owned 49% and Dietrich the other 49%). Chalerm who is the father of Vorayuth Yoovidhya and his two other siblings with his wife Daranee also owns Siam Winery (his wine company), a supporter of the Red Bull Team and co-owns the Ferrari dealership, He is Thailand’s 40th richest man with a net worth of $250million.
