One of the Cooking Channel’s star chefs is gearing up for a long court battle. Giada De Laurentis, grand daughter of the famed director Dino De Laurentis is going through some difficult times as the year comes to an end. It’s looking like 2015 promises to be very trying for De Laurentis, 44. Her fashion designer husband of 11 years Todd Thompson filed for divorce from the super chef earlier this month. The couple have one child, a girl Jade age 6, the couple have been separated since July. De Laurentis filed an answer to the divorce today sources are reporting.
In Tuesday’s court filing De Laurentis has stated she wants to keep her own possessions, she claims they are hers and hers alone. It is unclear at this time, exactly what possessions she’s referring to. De Laurentis is seeking joint physical and legal custody of her daughter Jade. The star chef announced the divorce filing to her legion of fans via her official Facebook page. She said “Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family’s happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate yet always connected paths. Todd and I share a beautiful daughter and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything.” She went on to thank her friends family and fans for their continued support.
De Laurentis has quite the interesting pedigree and story. She was born in Rome, Italy, and speaks Italian fluently. She studied fine dining and cooking at the famed Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. When her mother Italian actress Veronica De Laurentis and her father actor Alex De Benedetti divorced in the early 70’s Giada her mother and siblings immigrated to the United States, when Giada was only a toddler. The family settled in Southern California, to be close to other family including her famed grandfather, Dino De Laurentis.
Giada graduated from the exclusive Marymount High School in Los Angeles. She went onto to study culinary arts at UCLA and studied in France as well. She worked at several upscale restaurants in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. She came to the attention of famed chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck. She started to work at Spago the famous celebrity haunt owned by Puck. Soon after she started to work as a food stylist for various magazine and film commercial shoots.
She had a credit layout in Food and Wine Magazine in 2002. That layout cemented her future with the Food Network, as an executive from the network saw the layout. De Lauentis several regular programs and specials for the Food Network in 2003 and is still hosting a daily show on the network currently. She has her own line of kitchen supplies that are exclusively sold at Target Stores. She is an author of several cook books. There has been some chatter about the reason for the breakup of the 11 year marriage, however nothing has been confirmed as this date, this is a fast developing story……..
