Fabiola Russo Schettino is Costa Concordia Captain Francesco Schettino Wife

Fabiola Russo Schettino is standing by her husband, Costa Concordia captain Francesco Schettino who abandoned the ship before the passengers could be rescue, even though he was order to go back, he was in jail now in house arrest and been accused of multiple manslaughter, abandoning ship and causing a shipwreck. But who is the one person on his defense?

Last week The Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia ran aground near the Isola del Giglio, the capatain Francesco Schettina was in command of the 952 ft 1 in ship  that carried 4,200 people (3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew).11 bodies have been recovered, there are still 24 people missing.

A conversation between Captain Schettino  and  the coast guard has been recovered from the ship’s black box, the discovery of that conversation is shocking and is more than enough evidence to pout the captain under house arrest.

This is the conversation..

Coastguard to captain (who has already left the ship): ‘Hello. This is De Falco from Livorno, am I speaking with the captain?’
Captain to Coastguard: ‘Yes, good evening Captain De Falco.’

Coastguard : ‘This is De Falco from Livorno, am I speaking with the captain? Please tell me your name.’
Captain: ‘This is captain Schettino.’
Coastguard : ‘Schettino? Listen Schettino, there are people trapped on board. Now you need to go on your life boat, under the bow of the ship on the side. There is a ladder. You need to climb up the ladder and board the ship. Get on board and report to me how many people there are. Is that clear? I am recording this conversation, captain Schettino.’
Captain: ‘Captain, let me tell you one thing…’
Coastguard : ‘Speak up!’
Captain: ‘The ship, at this moment…’
Coastguard : ‘Captain, speak up! Shield the microphone with your hand and speak louder, clear?’

Captain: ‘At this moment the ship is tilted.’
Coastguard : ‘I understand. Listen, there are people who are coming down the ladder on the bow. Go back in the opposite direction, get back on the ship, and tell me how many people there are and what they have on board. Clear? Tell me if there are children, women and what kind of help they need. And you tell me the number of each of these categories. Is that clear? Look, Schettino, perhaps you have saved yourself from the sea but I will make you look very bad. I will make you pay for this. Dammit!’
Captain: ‘Captain, please…’
Coastguard : ‘There is no please about it. Go back on board. Assure me you are going back on board!’
Captain: ‘I am in the life boat, under the ship, I haven’t gone anywhere, I’m here.’
Coastguard : ‘What are you doing?’
Captain: ‘I am coordinating…’
Coastguard : ‘What are you coordinating there? Get on board the ship and coordinate the rescue on board. Are you refusing?’
Captain: ‘No, no I am not refusing.’
Coastguard : ‘Are you refusing to go on board? Tell me the reason why you are not going.’
Captain: ‘I am not going because there is another life boat that has stopped.’
Coastguard : ‘You get on board. This is an order. You need to continue the rescue. You called the evacuation, now I am in charge. You need to go on board the ship, is that clear?’
Captain: ‘Captain.’
: ‘Can you hear me?’
Captain: ‘I am going.’
Coastguard : ‘Go. Call me when you are on board. My air rescue team is there. He is at the bow. Get going. There are already corpses Schettino. Move!’
Captain: ‘How many dead are there?’
Coastguard : ‘I don’t know. One I am aware of. One I’ve heard of. You need to be telling me this. Christ!’
Captain: ‘But you are aware it is dark and we can’t see anything?’
Coastguard : ‘And what do you want? To go back home, Schettino? It’s dark and you want to go back home? Get on the bow of the ship and tell me what can be done, how many people there are and what do they need. Now!’
Captain: ‘I am here with the second commander.’
Coastguard : ‘Excuse me?’
Captain: ‘I am here with the second commander his name is…’
Coastguard : ‘So both of you, get on board, both of you. What is the name of the second?’
Captain: ‘Dimitry.’
Coastguard : ‘Dimitry who?’
Captain: ‘Dimitry.. ‘ (Unclear)
Coastguard : ‘You and your second commander, go and get on board now. Is that clear?’
Captain: ‘Captain, I want to get on board the ship but the other life boat has stopped its engine and it is drifting and I called other rescuers.’
Coastguard : ‘It’s already one hour you are telling me this. Now, get on board. Get on board! And you tell me how many people there are.’
Captain: ‘Okay, Captain.’
Coastguard: ‘Go, right now!’

So what about Schettino’s Wife Fabiola Schettino?

Not much she refused to comment but did said her husband’s actions are still to be verified.

“Those who know him well have testified he is dedicated to his work and professionalism. This can be demonstrated by his decisive actions which helped limit the consequences of the accident for all the passengers.” Fabiola Russo Schettino said.

She also took the opportunity to expressed her sorrow for the families affected and asked for understanding  regarding Schettino’s human drama.

So far we don’t know much about her, she and her commander husband have a 15year-old daughter Rosella, they resided at Meta di Sorrento in Sorrento near Naples at their s £175,000 apartment. If I am right Fabiola Russo studied ay Istituto Magistrale Virgilio, she works at Palazzo del Banco di Napoli.

  1. Seems to me the wife is much more beautiful than the alleged Moldovan Chick.
Caveat is I am 6 years older than the Capitano.

  2. He was the captain and it is his responsibility to ensure safety, period. He didn’t do that. People are dead, missing –and a few thousand that lived are traumatized. He needs to atone for that.

  3. The tragic outcome of Jan. 13/12 on the Concordia, by all accounts was a disaster waiting to happen. Are all of the accounts truth proof? I am reminded of President Clinton and his denial of wrong doing, and perhaps still in denial today. Because 32 persons did not perish as a result of the President’s wrong doing makes him less of a villain. However, had he been in charge of a cruise ship, how might the story have been told today? Is some of the womanizing and arrogance prompted or encouraged by the entertainment aspect of cruise ships, and the persons who are attracted to that life? It does in no way condone the behaviour actualized that fateful night. But it does show the human condition needs constant reminders that we are all mortal. This is an extreme case of Murphy’s law. How could it possibly have happened, and it did.

I agree that Fabiola is a very attractive woman, more or less beautiful than someone else does not matter. It seems to me after all this time and reading as much as possible about this tragedy, that there is more that we don’t know and may never know. My guess is that Captain Schettino has had some serious mental and personality problems for a long time, which his wife is aware of, but is not going to discuss in public, nor should she need to. She is going to gloss over those as it is in her best interests to do so, not unlike Hilary Clinton. In the end it is probably for the best. Their lives are ruined now, and there will be much pain to endure for a very, very, long time. Does this lessen the pain for families of the perished persons, NO. We live in an imperfect and dangerous world. It is only when we sleep awake that we choose to forget this.
