Tate Matheny Son Of Mike Matheny Making His Own Strides!

Mike Matheny former Major League baseball player, takes great pride in athletic son, Tate Matheny. The senior Matheny is 41 and the current manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Matheny has only been the team’s manager for three years since 2012. When he first took the position he gave an interview regarding his only personal approach to managing a big league team. Matheny once played for the Cardinals as a catcher, he was asked how it felt to the wear the coveted uniform as a manager and not a players. Mathney said, “Yeah I think I really have to get my head around it. There’s been a lot going on and a lot of change in a short amount of time. I don’t think I can put the words together that can explain well enough to the people out there that are listening and been so supportive. It’s truly the greatest honor of my life. I’m excited about the challenges, and I’m excited about the opportunity.” He was then asked “You said earlier you were made for this role, At what point when did you know this would be what you would be doing.” He responded “I think I knew pretty early on, that is what I would be doing.”

“Pretty impressive when I go to college and I play for a guy that caught for 17 years, and the first thing he tells me when he comes into the room is change all your electives to Spanish, because when I manage, it’s going to be a very valuable tool.” Shortly after Matheny left his playing days behind for good, he was a little league baseball coach. Matheny was forced to give up playing professional baseball due to having too many concussions. Matheny had no professional coaching experience when he was asked to sign on as manager of the Cardinals. Like father like son apparently in the Mahtney household is golden rule. Mike’s son Tate has also taken up the sport of baseball just like his father and has excelled at it.

Tate has been making heads turn at Missouri state, with his huge baseball talent. He was the source of much adulation and chatter in the last few years. In 2013 Tate than a freshman at the University was the subject of a lot of attention. Tate lead the team in almost every offensive statistical category. Tate at the time said ” I didn’t come into this to have any expectations. I just wanted to come and work hard, and do my job everyday. I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing, and I feel like I’ve been doing it well.” Tate was drafted right after high school in the 23 round of the major league baseball draft. However in spite of that feat, Tate chose to play instead of playing for a college team and for the Bears. Tate said at the time, “These are four years you never get back. You know this is college, you always hear stories about going to college and loving it. I didn’t want to miss out on all that.”
